A guy called Donald Henderson was the founder of North Cape and as suggested above, he built the company into a major player in the outdoor clothing industry, holding a fairly unique position as one of the very few companies of that ilk operating in Scotland. Capitalising on the latest fabric technology Donald was able to produce a fine range of functional outdoor gear, an excellent example of which we have here in the collection. The Polartec fabric used in this fleece top first appeared around 1980 using polyester yarn, often made from recycled materials such as plastic bottles. Soft, lightweight and warm with many of the qualities inherent in wool, it was, and still is, ideal for outdoor clothing.

This particular fleece once belonged to Peter McKellar, who, among many other things, was a member of the Ochils Mountain Rescue Team. The fleece was kindly donated by Peter’s wife and daughters, Lynne, Ciorstaidh & Mairi.
