Provenance:
Ian Thomson, a friend of Mick Tighe’s, bought this cooker in an auction in Perth, around 2005, for a few pounds and donated it to the collection. It’s the sort of thing that would probably have been used to take food/soup out to shooting parties on a big estate in days gone by, or maybe it was part of an up market picnic hamper. Not actually sure if it was made in England or imported and distributed in England, especially as it is called the ‘Norwegian’. Not sure of the date – could be early as 1900. It is a lovely item though, almost a piece of furniture. We note that S.W. Silver Co. were Gunsmiths in London from 1861-1900, so it seems fairly certain this item was imported and distributed by them. Our assumptions about the use and the date weren’t too far out either.
