Provenance:
This is one of the many piton hammers that we have in the collection and we are not sure who the donor was, so thanks in absentia. Ricardo Cassin was a legendary Italian Alpiniste (1909-2009) who also produced mountaineering equipment such as this hammer. Modern firms of rock climbing protection such as wired wedges, small cams and tiny nuts have assigned pitons to the history books almost, and with them go the hammers that knocked them in – fortunately we’ve salvaged this one and several others for the collection.
