Provenance:
As the name implies, piton hammers are generally used for hammering in pitons, this hammer does just that, though the wee bit on the end is designed for pulling them back out again and, as pitons are often called ‘pegs’, they’ve called it a de-pegger.

Artificial climbing, where lots of ‘pegs’ were used, is pretty much a thing of the past except for the big walls. Pitons/pegs cost money so it’s a good idea to take them out and the second guy/girl up the climb would do just that, this hammer was designed to help the process, unfortunately we haven’t done any big walls lately to try it out!
