Provenance:
The absence of any markings on a piton would normally indicate that it was home-made, as factory produced versions usually have their stamp/logo, i.e. Stubai, Clog, Cassin etc. The two we have here in the collection are a wee bit of a puzzle as there are no markings, though they do look professionally made. The fact they are pretty much identical (apart from length) would seem to prove the point. They are beautifully made, whatever, by someone. Unfortunately we don’t know where they came from, having been exhumed from our piton graveyard. A nice addition to the collection, making us think there needs to be a ‘mystery’ section!
