A few more Clog pitons to add to our collection. There’s lots more vintage ‘Clogs’ elsewhere in the collection, with info on the history. These guys (we think pitons are guys, not girls) are what Clog called ‘offset eye pitons’, though we’re not sure why! We have two long and two short versions of the thicker ones here in the collection and only one has a Clog logo, which helps us date them. Denny Moorehouse, progenitor of Clog, didn’t have a Clog stamp when he first started making pitons in 1966, also the one Clog stamp we have here is an early one too as later ones had an oval ellipse around, circa 1968/9. One of the shorter ones doesn’t seem to have been used, the others not very much. They were all part of the armoury of Mick Tighe’s mountain guiding company, Nevis Guides, back in the 1980s/90s. There are some of the thinner, knifeblade versions elsewhere in the collection.
