Provenance:
We are pretty sure this rucksack is a Relum, though as we are not 100% sure we’ve called it a Vintage Rucksack – which it is! We have a Relum elsewhere in the collection, so check it out if you need more info, that one and this have all the hallmarks of a 1960s/70s rucksack, the ‘A’ frame was almost universal in rucksacks until integral frames and pack-frames came along in the 1970s. The canvas and fabulous leather straps on this one are also very much 1960s/70s style and a little more refined than others around at the time, they are also characteristic of Relum.

90% of rucksacks, from all eras, have a maker’s name stamped or labelled somewhere, we can’t find either on this rucksack, so while we are fairly sure it’s a Relum we are very sure it’s vintage.

We note that this type of rucksack has been linked to the Swiss Army and there are many similarities to Swiss rucksacks, though there is no record of Relum supplying rucksacks to the Swiss and Swiss rucksacks, whoever supplied/made them, invariably have Swiss logos of some sort stamped on them. Check out the Swiss military rucksack elsewhere in the collection.
