We have another pair of heel crampons in the collection, replicas of the ones used by shepherds in the Dauphine area of France. The ones we have here could well have been used by Swiss shepherds on the steep mountains of the Alps though also on the icy streets of Swiss towns and cities. Instep crampons are the norm for wandering around on shopping trips and more often for simple glacier walking so these heel crampons are a bit of a puzzle. Shepherds, shoppers or glacier walkers? Beautifully made as we have come to expect from the Swiss, they are in mint condition never having been used. The two pairs, one for men and one for women were bought in a charity shop for £5 per pair in 2025.
