Provenance:
We’ve tried to keep our ski collection to the ‘made of wood’ variety to avoid being avalanched by a mountain of plastic and & glass fibre. There are a few exceptions of which this pair is one, having once belonged to our good friend Alex Gillespie who did much to set up our collection in the early days.

Dating from the 1970s, Alex probably acquired these skis when working in Nevisport, the Fort William mountaineering shop (he was a Director for a while). Though not quite Olympic standard, Alex & his wife Mary pottered around on the snow a wee bit and had a fabulous couple of weeks skiing in Norway (circa 1980) where the above picture was taken.

The Swedish company Edsbyn were specialist furniture manufacturers along with making skis – they stopped making them in 1984, though the furniture making still thrives.
