Provenance:
Pitons, rope slings and steel karabiners, like the two we have here in the collection, were the norm back in the 1960s, lightweight aluminium alloy karabiners had been invented but it would be a decade or so before they became universal.

Stubai began life back in 1897 when a group of local blacksmiths, from the valley of the same name, got together to form Stubai the company, which is still going strong in 2025.

We are not quite sure when, but at some point in time companies were required to stamp the breaking strain of their karabiners along with the company logo. The ones we have here don’t have that stamp, and while the Ellis Brigham catalogue lists the ‘breaking strength’ as 4,000kgs, other catalogues from the same era have it as 2,200kgs.
