Provenance:
Not a major mountaineering item one might think, though the well dressed mountaineer of the 1950/60’s would need to have well ironed clothes! The interest for us is that the iron is powered by paraffin in much the same way as a primus, and Tilley were, and still are, major manufacturers of camping stoves and lanternes. Dating from around 1955 this one had model number DN250. Similar ones seem to be available for around £20 on e-Bay in 2012 – Mick Tighe acquired this one in a junk shop for £2.00, but he hasn’t ironed his trousers with it yet!
