Looks like a couple of American guys called Bill Danner and Hans Woitschatzke started the Trak Ski enterprise back in 1969/70. Their initial products focused on the waxless/fish-scale system developed by another guy called Bill Bennet. Often known as the ‘black art’, matching a vast array of ski waxes to a myriad of snow conditions was a nightmare for the average recreational skier, particularly those from outwith Scandinavia where skiing and waxing was in the blood.
Trak had their own brand of ski boots, but often used Salomon boots and bindings. They did produce waxable skis too, and we have a pair here in the collection, made from carbon fibre with a wooden core & P Tex bases.
Our good friend, Mike Parsons, kindly donated this pair. Mike was the owner of Karrimor back in the 1980s/90s when they were the UK importer of Trak skis, he tells us that they were all made in the Morotto factory in Cortina, Italy.
In 1980 Trak acquired the Austrian ski company Kneissl, though Trak subsequently sold out to the Finnish company Karhu in 1988.
