Tulloch Mountaincraft (TMC)
Scotland
Tulloch Mountain Craft (TMC) began life in 1970/71 when Dave Challis acquired an old building beside the West Highland Railway, taking the name Tulloch from the small cluster of mostly railway buildings round about.
Dave ran outdoors education courses for mostly young kids, alongside what is best described as a cottage industry, whereby his staff would provide materials for various outdoor clothing items, designed and cut to size. Dave would then deliver these to a few local people with sewing machines who would stitch everything together and he would collect them on his next round.
Fleeces, waterproof jackets, tents and the mittens we have here in the collection were all part of the TMC range, an innovative and traditional way of doing things which unfortunately didn’t last too long since the company went out of business around 1980.
Fortunately, we have a few TMC articles in our collection including these fleece lined nylon mitts kindly donated by our old pal, Bill Newton.
