Clogwyn Climbing Gear, Clog for short, began life way back in 1966 when a guy called Denny Moorhouse and his partner Shirley Smith began making climbing gear in an old cinema in Deiniolen, North Wales. What climbing hardware there was around at the time came mostly from abroad, Denny and Shirley wanted to rectify the situation.
Pitons and hexagons were the first products to appear in the late 1960s and we have excellent examples of both elsewhere in the collection. We’re not sure exactly when, but reckon in the mid/late 1970s, Clog’s first karabiners came along and there followed a variety of different shapes, sizes and breaking strains, moving with the times!
A company called Wild Country bought Clog in 1986, though they kept the Clog name on many of their products, so we’re not quite sure under whose aegis these ones were made and, as with most of these things, there were several variations of the same karabiner: thinner; thicker; different gate etc, we’ll leave that to the ‘geeks’ and be very happy with our six little two-thousand-two-hundreders which we cobbled together from various sources.
